BBC Renews Hit Sitcom Not Going Out For Another Series

Lee Mack and Sally Bretton

One of the BBC’s longest-running comedies is officially coming back for another series, with its star confirming that the show isn’t going anywhere just yet.

After 20 years on our screens, Lee Mack has confirmed that Not Going Out will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2027 for its sixteenth series, continuing its run as the longest-running British sitcom currently on television.

The comedy first launched in 2006, introducing us to Lee as a laid-back man with very little interest in finding a proper job. Over the years, we’ve watched his relationship with Lucy, played by Sally Bretton, develop from an unlikely romance into marriage and family life.

The show has changed quite a bit since those early episodes. Lee and Lucy became parents to three children, before the story jumped forward several years to follow the couple as their children grew older. The most recent series saw another change in their lives as they moved away from their old suburban home.

Not Going Out has now aired 112 episodes and become the UK’s second longest-running sitcom by number of series. Previous cast members have included Hugh Dennis and Miranda Hart, while Tim Vine and the late Bobby Ball also became familiar faces throughout its run.

The sixteenth series is expected to arrive on BBC One and iPlayer sometime in 2027, although an exact broadcast date and further cast details have yet to be announced.

In the meantime, previous episodes are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
